Family Tree Design
Goal: Find and solve need of your family
How might we statement: How might we bring back our traditions and culture?
Users: Family
My solution is making a diagram of their hometown village. The family members can take a moving piece and move it around the village while telling a story. This is a fun and interactive way to learn more about my family culture and traditions.

IDEate (brainstorming)
While I was brainstorming, I thought about interesting ways to tell a story. Such as a storybook, a collage, and etc. Then I came up with an idea to make my mom's village.
Prototype
For my prototype I made a village. The green box is a school. The little cardboard pieces are homes for the villagers. The green circles are people. Then there is a bigger piece of cardboard which is mountain ranges.

Testing
For the first testing with my family they told me more about the village so I was able add more to the village. I've been told that people would sell fruits and vegetables on the boat along the river so I tried to imitate that by making it. Then there is a pole holding a card which is telling the story of the village.
For testing I showed it to several students and family members. My cousin said ", what a great idea since I also don't know much about our family's traditions." Some students were kinda confused on what to do. To re-iterate it I would add moving pieces such as my family members and animals. |
Reflect
Overall, this design challenge helped me to have a deeper understanding of my family. I really enjoyed how we got to choose a problem in this category, instead of being assigned to one. This is the first design challenge for my 10th grade year and I felt like this year we have more options.
